There are lots of great reasons to participate in intramural sports at El Centro College! And there lots of great options to choose from, including basketball, volleyball and soccer (to name a few).

Whatever team sport you pick, participation is free and open to all students and staff.

Our Mascot

El Centro College opened its doors in downtown Dallas on Sept. 19, 1966. Two months later, the El Centro College Student Council – representing a total of 4,047 students – voted on the college's colors and mascot.

Powder blue and black and the roadrunner, Chaparral, won.

Since then the Chaparral has been the face of athletics and student life at El Centro College. If you see him on the court, be sure to offer a big high five! To learn more about the history of the Dallas County Community Colleges, visit the historic timeline.

Want to work out on campus? Everything you need to keep your body happy and healthy is available at El Centro College. We have two locations for physical fitness. One on campus, and one right across the street.
