DART Improves Bus Routes to Colleges

This article appeared in the July 30, 2019, issue of the student newsletter.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit — or DART, as it’s commonly known — just updated more than 30 of its key bus routes across the metroplex, including routes that go directly to several of the colleges of DCCCD.

Starting on Aug. 12, if you take a DART bus to Brookhaven, Eastfield, North Lake or Richland College, you will be able to get to campus faster and more conveniently than ever before.

So, What’s New?

DART is improving nearly half of all the bus routes across Dallas. The goal is to get people where they are going “quicker and easier.”

Additionally, DART is adding a new line of buses that feature USB charging ports at every seat. Need to charge your phone or tablet on the way to class? No problem; just plug it in while you ride!

How Does This Impact DCCCD Students?

Several DART routes to the colleges of DCCCD are changing to offer more direct service with fewer stops along the way. This means you’ll be able to reach your destination faster, while still taking the same bus route you’re used to.

Brookhaven College

Minor schedule changes are being made to DART bus route 486 that takes you directly to Brookhaven’s main campus.

Eastfield College

Minor schedule changes are being made to DART bus route 110 that takes you directly to Eastfield’s main campus.

North Lake College

Modifications made to DART bus route 504, which takes you directly to the main entrance to North Lake’s central campus, will improve on-time arrival and departure times.

Richland College

DART bus route 583 that goes to Richland’s main campus is changing the most. Route 583 will become part of DART’s Core Frequent Network of seven routes that transport more than 13,500 people daily. These bus routes are being upgraded to train standards, which means you’ll spend less time waiting for a bus and reach campus faster than before. Starting Aug. 12, route 583 through the Skillman Corridor will run buses every 15 minutes during peak times, every 20 minutes during midday and every 20-30 minutes at other times.

For More Information

Be sure to check out for a complete list of all the Aug. 12 changes. If you’re not sure which DART routes go to each of the seven Dallas Community Colleges, check out our website for more information.

And, most importantly, don’t forget that qualified students can ride DART for free with the DART Student GoPass!

Credit students who are enrolled in six or more credit hours (for the Fall or Spring semesters) and three or more credit hours (for Summer terms) are eligible to receive a DART Student GoPass that will allow them to ride DART buses, trains, shuttles and paratransit services for free. Continuing education students who meet certain requirements are also eligible to receive GoPasses.
