Save Money: Start Your Engineering Degree at El Centro

This article appeared in a 2015 issue of the student newsletter.

Do you plan to be an engineer? Next year, El Centro College will offer you a new path to that career.

Starting in Fall 2016, the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy will be offered at El Centro. Here's how it works:

  • You co-enroll at both El Centro College and Texas A&M University.
  • You complete your first two years of college at El Centro.
  • Then you finish your engineering degree at Texas A&M, in College Station.

By enrolling at El Centro College for your first two years, you save thousands of dollars because you'll pay the low DCCCD tuition rates instead of the higher tuition of a four-year institution.

Participating students can co-enroll in one of 16 engineering majors through the Texas A&M Dwight Look College of Engineering. From the moment you co-enroll, you'll be not only a student of El Centro but also a Texas Aggie.

Details of the program are being worked out and will be announced later. Faculty members from El Centro and Texas A&M will work together to deliver the classes and program that students need before they transfer and move to College Station.
