This course examines the process for verifying an application for membership to a medical staff organization. Assignments cover education and training required for medical professionals, the American Board of Medical Specialties recognized specialties and subspecialties, the differences between osteopathic medical and allopathic medical training, and the pre-application and application processes. Steps in verifying the credentials presented in an application for medical staff membership are reviewed in depth, including red flag areas. The Johnson v Misericordia Community Hospital case is reviewed for identification of errors made in processing an application. The process for routing an application through medical staff channels for approval by the governing body is studied.
