This course will address the current events, skills, knowledge and attitudes and behaviors pertinent to phlebotomy.  An introduction on basic venipuncture, technical abilities and skills essential to phlebotomy will be reviewed and assessed. You must have a passing score (according to syllabus) to attend PLAB 1023 course. Fifteen (15) maximum number of seats available. Submit your complete application starting - 04/19/206. You must have Continuing Education Academic Advisor approval for this course. Textbook required: Phlebotomy Essentials, McCall, Ruth. Lippincott Publishing 4th Edition.

Skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions including vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children and infants.  Emphasis on infection prevention, patient identification, specimen labeling, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, accessing, professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology. Topics include professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology.

The curriculum is designed to provide the didactic information and competencies required by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) for certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). Prerequisites: WorkKeys® Assessment and you must have a passing score (according to syllabus) to attend PLAB 1023 course.. Proof of current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Healthcare Provider Certification.     Liability Insurance:  Fall       $11.70   
   Continuing Education Academic Advisor Approval is required before Registration.

Phlebotomy Technicians are critical team members at hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and blood donor centers.  Earning a Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) certification from National Health Career Association improves maketability in this growing field and boost employers confidence in your skills and abilities.  Our training provides practice on training aides, as well as the opportunity to do live stickis and administer Venipuncture and Skin punctures.    Successful completion of this training prepares students to take the National Health Career Association for Compentency Testing Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam.   There is an extra fee for this exam.   Exams dates are 12/10/16 and 12/17/16.  See the instructor for more details.
