"I was changed as an artist through having Rosemary DesPlas and Omar Hernandez (among others at El Centro) as my professors. The courses that I took made me a better art student and artist. These two professors are active in the art community and think outside of the box, and that can be seen in the assignments they give in the courses they teach. This way of teaching allows for the student artists to express themselves and exceed their own expectations of what they can create. They both served as the El Centro Visual Art Club’s representative when I was the President and they allowed me to be a leader and do the things that the members wanted to do. That investment allowed for that club to grow from a small group of artists to a club that is involved in the greater art community of Dallas. This gave me leadership experience I use in many other areas of life. Now that I have transferred from El Centro to New Mexico State University, I miss my time at El Centro. Rosemary and Omar are key components of my college experiences and my growth as an artist. I would recommend them to any student that wants to transfer to another university because they will help prepare them for the next level of their college experience. All of this I am thankful for and forever in their debt. I will take what I have learned and do my best to create art with it." .

"I returned to school at 25, intent on completing a degree in Fine Art. I began my quest at El Centro College where I took my first Drawing classes with Rosemary Desplas. At El Centro, I gained experience and cultivated abilities that garnered my acceptance into the BFA program at the University of Texas at Arlington. El Centro and Ms. Desplas’ instruction had a profound impact on me, one that continues to resonate in my life and work. I graduated from UTA, summa cum laude, in 2004 and continued my graduate education at Florida International University in Miami where I fell in love with teaching. I received my MFA in 2008 and returned to Dallas where I reconnected with my wonderful instructors at both El Centro and UTA. I have been teaching Drawing and Design at both schools for the past seven years and living my life as a professional artist, loving every minute of it. El Centro College put me on the path to fulfilling the dream I live today!." .

"I am currently a senior at UT Arlington pursuing a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Printmaking. I have currently exhibited in venues such as Ash Studios, The Basement Gallery, H. Paxton Moore Gallery, and the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago. I am the graphic designer for Rebel Planet, a rock & funk band from Oak Cliff, the In-House Artist for the Center for Mexican American Studies and I am the letterpress tech at Wild Pony Editions studio. The El Centro Art Department allowed me to participate in a creative environment that required me to think about my role and how I can contribute. I recommend high schoolers and anyone that is looking to pursue a college degree to start at a community college. I started at El Centro where I practiced my artistic endeavors in the Visual Arts Club. The art classes were fun and challenging,! My favorite classes were my digital art classes: I experimented with several mediums in which I still do today. My future goals include pursuing a MFA and opening a print shop & letterpress studio to offer art classes for the community. The El Centro Art Department, along with my instructors and peers, helped me develop skills that I have applied in my academic in personal goals.." .
