Carol Johns earned her initial nursing diploma at West Suburban School of Nursing in Oak Park, Illinois. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas in Tyler.
As a registered nurse, her professional experience includes pediatric staff nurse experiences in Illinois, Kansas and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, we well as critical care nursing in California and Kansas. She also certified as a nurse midwife and spent 18 years in Papua New Guinea serving as a midwife and family nurse.
Recent experience includes serving as staff nurse and care coordinator for Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and as an intern liaison for Methodist Health System. Ms. Johns began teaching at El Centro as an adjunct faculty member in 2006 and became full-time faculty in the fall of 2015. She teaches lecture classes for first and fourth levels, and professional nurse concepts for all levels and pediatric clinicals.
She is a member of the El Centro College Faculty Association, Sigma Theta Tau international Nursing Honor Society, the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing, the Texas Nursing Association and Alpha Chi Honor Society. Ms. Johns was the 2013-2014 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching award for Adjunct Faculty in the Health Sciences Division.
