PRN (as needed) sonographer at Baylor and Methodist hospitalsAdjunct faculty, Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, El Centro College
“In order to deal with a wide range of patients in health care, you have to have good interpersonal skills. You must be able to communicate sympathetically and maintain your composure while hearing difficult or unusual types of information. You must also be very dependable, more than in other types of professions. The hospital does not close for bad weather and there is often nobody else to do your shift.
“Patients are very appreciative when you take the time to explain everything to them and show them compassion at a time when they are scared and suffering. They will thank you by name every day when you show them why heath care has 'care' at the end of the word.”
