Prepare for a career in:

  • Fashion design: Fashion designers sketch clothing designs, conduct fittings and adjustments on prototypes, overseeing garment production to final manufacturing. They work for design and manufacturing firms and often open their own businesses. In a smaller firm, they have wider duties such as patternmaking and sewing, with more specialized niches in larger companies.
  • Pattern-making: Professional pattern makers conceptualize, measure, draw and cut paper patterns for production, often helping to select fabric. Precision and mathematics play a large role in their job duties. They usually work for clothing manufacturers or individual designers.
  • Product development: The business of designing, producing, sourcing and distributing apparel is one of the largest industries worldwide. Fashion product development is an integrated process that includes materials, manufacture, costs, quality, management and distribution. Product developers work in varied situations from large company corporate headquarters to independent small design companies

With its apparel industry, Dallas is an ideal place to hone skills and gain valuable work experience. Our graduates, who work all over the world, tell us repeatedly that the skills they learned at El Centro gave them the competitive edge to succeed in the industry.
