Length of time is based on catalog degree plans. Prerequisites may be required, which are not included in this estimate. For most programs, full-time student status is assumed, a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.

Graduates are eligible for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certified Surgical Technologist Exam. Certification is a requirement of employment as a surgical technologist in Texas.
Want to learn more about careers in Surgical Technology?
Surgical technologists can complete the Associate Degree Nursing program via the advanced placement RN Bridge program at El Centro College. Admission is open to applicants who are registered surgical technologists, who have not previously enrolled in an Associate Degree Nursing program and who complete all entrance requirements. Graduates of the RN Bridge program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become licensed as a registered nurse (RN) in Texas.
A Continuing Education (C.E.) Surgical Technology Refresher course (SRGT-1091-51201) is offered online each Fall and Spring semester for current non-certified surgical technologists to prepare for the national certification exam.
