The TSI (Texas Success Initiative) evaluates your readiness for college-level courses in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This program also helps advisors determine what type of course or intervention will best meet your needs and lets them assist you in becoming better prepared for college-level coursework.
Note: Due to COVID-19, the colleges of DCCCD are closed to the public, and staff are working remotely. As a result, TSI assessment requirements are being waived.
The exceptional circumstances waiver will support all high school graduates and dual credit students.
Please see the main TSI Assessment webpage for more information.
You can find out more about TSI exemptions and waivers in the DCCCD catalog.
If you are a high school student and have not yet met TSI requirements, contact your academic advisor to discuss recommended courses. Contact the
Advising Center for more information.
If you are a dual credit student, DCCCD dual credit coordinators will use the following criteria to help place you in recommended courses:
Important notice: All students receiving the exceptional circumstances waiver must be assessed by the end of their first semester of in-person enrollment in entry-level freshman courses.
There are exemptions to taking the TSI. You can find out more about TSI exemptions and waivers in the DCCCD catalog. You must take the TSI (or be exempted from taking it) before you can register for classes. At some of the colleges of DCCCD, the TSI must be completed before you can participate in orientation.
Consider preparing for the TSI. There are free practice resources available for the TSI assessment through the ACCUPLACER website, including a web-based study app, practice questions and sample essays.
All students must complete the pre-assessment activity (PAA) in eConnect before taking the TSI. To take the PAA, you will need your DCCCD ID number, and you must be able to log in to your eConnect account.

When you finish the pre-assessment activity, click on the "Credit Student Menu" in eConnect, then select "My Personal Information" followed by "My Advising Report (GPA)". Make sure PAA shows as "taken" with the date it was completed.
You must complete a
testing referral before taking the TSI assessment.
Out-of-state students or students unable to take the assessment at one of the colleges of DCCCD will need to complete the TSI assessment at another approved Texas institution or through alternate remote delivery.
Online students who have tested elsewhere through an approved state institution and need their scores retrieved from the state database must submit an Individual Score Report (ISR) request form to the office listed below:
Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee free testing from an outside institution.
If you choose to take the TSI assessment, you can use the remote proctoring option through Examity.
Plan ahead. It may take up to one week or longer for proctor availability.
Please see the
detailed instructions on taking the TSI through Examity.
Once you have completed your TSI assessment, advisors will use your TSI assessment scores to recommend course choices during registration.
