Orientation for credit students is designed to introduce you to El Centro College. During your orientation session, you will learn about the registration process and the many ways we can help you succeed on and off campus.

New Student Orientation for credit students is a program all new students must attend prior to enrolling in classes at El Centro College. 

What do I need to do before registering for New Student Orientation?

Prior to registering for New Student Orientation students must be New Student Ready to register for summer and/or fall classes and that includes the following steps:

  1. Apply for Admissions
  2. Submit all necessary documentation, i.e., high school transcripts, proof of meningitis vaccination (22 years of age and under), etc.
  3. Meet with a First Year Advisor for New Student Preparation
  4. Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
  5. Take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA), if needed
  6. Meet with First Year Advisor to review TSIA assessment and
  7. Meet with First Year Advisor and use the My College Success Plan to select your courses for registration
  8. Register for New Student Orientation

Failure to complete all of these steps can result in being unable to successfully register for your course(s).

At New Student Orientation you will:

  • Register for classes.
  • Learn about ECC's student resources and services that are available on campus to help you reach academic success.
  • Receive a tour of the college.
  • Learn how to use online tools to handle your academic affairs, including online course registration.
  • Meet the First Year Experience & Retention Services Staff

Who needs to attend New Student Orientation?


  • Students who are new to college. (Never Attended)
  • Students who have not successfully completed any college level coursework

Strongly Recommended:

  • Dual Credit Students
  • Transfer Students with less than 12 college level credits 
  • Any student who wants to become more familiar with El Centro College


2019 Semester Start Dates

Students must be registered one week prior to start date

Summer I: Classes begin on June 6

Summer II: Classes begin on July 8

Fall: Classes begin on August 26
