Financial Aid We are pleased that you are planning to attend El Centro College. The Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting you in obtaining the necessary financing to achieve your educational goals. We assist students by awarding financial aid for post-secondary education. Financial aid is awarded as grants, scholarships, loans and student employment from various federal, state, institutional and private sources. Financial aid is available to students with financial need and also to those without need. IMPORTANT Processing time on all incoming documents is 30-45 business days (6-8 weeks) from the date it is received in our office. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID ONLINE
PRIORITY PROCESSING DATES Application received by June 1, 2009 for the period of Fall 2009. If this deadline is missed the student will be expected to make payment arrangements with the Cashier's Office using personal resources at the time of registration. DISBURSEMENT OF REMAINING FUNDS If you receive a financial aid award before your credit classes start: Any tuition you owe will be deducted from your award. Tuition will not be deducted earlier than 10 days before the first day of classes. You will receive an initial disbursement (if eligible), unless there are blocks on your student record (for example, if you have an outstanding balance from a previous semester). You can use the initial disbursement to buy books and supplies for your classes. You will not reeive this money any earlier than 10 days before the start of classes. You will receive any remaining funds eligible for release after the financial aid lock date and after beginning attendance has been certified by each of your instructors. LOANS El Centro College participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) referred to as FFELP Stafford/Federal PLUS Loans. In the FFELP, the lender is a bank, credit union or other participating private lender. LOAN COUNSELING SESSIONS In order to apply for a loan, your Financial Aid file must be complete. Once this has been done, you must attend an Entrance Loan Counseling session prior to completing the loan application.
