WorkKeys

This is a system for testing the skills of current and prospective employment to determine, among other things, their compatibility for certain jobs.

ACT is the owner of the WorkKeys system.

The test consists of:
  • reading for information
  • locating information
  • applied mathematics

The assessment for Continuing Education coursework is at no cost to students.

Students must:
  • be advised by the Continuing Education Department

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language

Measuring the Proficiency of the English Language Usage of Non-Native Speakers
  • Scores are accepted by more than 6,000 colleges and universities.
  • Examinees must sign a Confidentiality Statement as required by ETS; this is provided by the Testing Center.
  • El Centro Testing Center is open to everyone who is properly registered, regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. 

How long is the test?

    TeXes Teacher Certification

    Certifying teachers in the state of Texas.
    • The  El Centro Testing Center participates in the Texas Educator Certification Program through which the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TeXes) is among the many exams offered.
    • Practice tests, test center locations, and registration for the exam are available online.
    • The El Centro Testing Center is open to everyone who is properly registered, regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin.

    TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)

    The TABE provides tests to assess literacy level work skills and English asa Second Language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The TABE is an assessment for non-degree and certificate seeking students.

    Who should take the test?
    • ESL students
    • Middle College students
    • Certified Nursing Assistant students (CNA)
    • Phlebotomy students
    • Medication Aide
    • Massage Therapy
    • MRI Technology
    • Medical Insurance Billing

    ICE

    Writing Comprehension Exam
    • for Students attempting to exit Writing Sequence
    • partnership between the Testing Center, Developmental Writing and ESOL faculty.
    • ICE is the Intermediate Competency Exam. It is a 2-hour, 300-600 word essay.
    This assessment is an exit exam for developmental writing.

    When can I take this test? How long will it take?
    • These writing exams are administered for 4 days within a semester:
      • Fall - Monday and Tuesday in mid-November

    Cross College Testing

    Testing Rooms are monitored by cameras and other computer screen monitoring software.

    The Testing Center has set as policy to no longer receive Cross Campus tests via fax.  This is to protect the integrity and security of Cross Campus Testing.  All Cross Campus Tests will be transported through inter-campus mail with a package transmittal (mail) form.
    • The Package Transmittal Form is attached to the inter-campus envelope
    • The appropriate colored copies must be distributed to the proper mailroom, driver or school location

    Credit by Examination

    Earn college credit through Credit-by-Examination

    El Centro College has developed "Credit by Exam" options. Registration materials are available. There is a $25 fee for each examination.

    Who can test for credit-by-examination?
    • Students who already meet the requirements of a course by experience or training
    • Students who are not currently enrolled in the actual course of the examination

    COSC 1301

    An assessment of computer literacy

    Students will be charged a credit-by-exam fee and will also need to purchase a password in the College Bookstore to gain access to the computerized test.

    COSC 1301 credit-by-exam - What is it? When can I take it?
    • A computer literacy exam prepared, executed and graded by El Centro College
    • Some students take the course and the credit is applied towards a computer science major or minor.
