Programming Languages


El Centro College offers courses that focus on the most widely accepted business programming languages, development tools, and server technologies. To serve the current needs of the enterprise environment, application development training is designed to merge integration technologies into both programming and database management systems utilizing powerful visual development tools and the latest in server technology.

IBM Servers

El Centro College is a member of the, IBM Academic Initiativeto ensure that students have the latest technology and tools that support the culture of open standards throughout the industry. Students are encouraged to join as individuals to build collaborative partnerships with IBM and other institutions in the open source community. Thousands of business enterprises in the Dallas area use IBM i and/or Blade computer systems.

College Computer lab

The College Computer lab, located in room A435, is available for use by any student registered for credit or non-credit courses at El Centro College. Cisco Networking Academy, Microsoft IT Academy, Microsoft Certified Application Specialist, and Unix/Linux classes use restricted labs in A431/A433/A423/A429.

Jobs for the Future

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that IT jobs will be among the fastest-growing and highest-paying over the next decade. Many IT careers offer flexible hours or telecommuting, making it easier to blend career and family. And IT professionals have skills that are useful in many different jobs.

Several industries report relatively strong IT hiring and technology investments. The federal government’s economic stimulus package is expected to further boost IT spending in some sectors.
