Mission Statement
The Credit ESOL Program at El Centro College provides English Language Learners with the opportunity to improve their productive and receptive skills in American English in order to help them achieve their individual goals.
Information
Classes are offered at 4 levels in each of the skill areas:- reading
- writing
- grammar
- listening/speaking
Students who successfully complete the upper levels of ESOL reading and writing (ESOL 0044 and ESOL 0054) are eligible to move directly into college transfer courses.
Classes are available weekday mornings and evenings, as well as on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Limited space is reserved in every credit class for Continuing Education students who, because of residency or cost, may prefer to register for credit ESOL classes through Continuing Education. Call 214-860-2262 for more information about concurrent enrollment.
Entry placement is determined by a student’s score on the COMPASS/ESL Test. Advancement through the program is by successful completion of courses and, in the upper 3 levels of writing and upper 2 levels of reading, by successful completion of the course AND a departmentally evaluated exit competency exam.
The Credit ESOL Program is part of the Communications, Mathematics, Developmental Studies, and Teacher Preparation Division. The Division Office is in room A341. For further information, call 214-860-2412.
