Then a career in diagnostic medical sonography may be for you! It’s a great fit for people who have strong organizational and multitasking skills and who are interested in the medical field.
A diagnostic medical sonographer, or ultrasonographer, performs sonography examinations using high-frequency sound waves, obtaining sonographic data necessary for a physician to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases. (Clinical rotations are work-based learning experiences, where you are able to practice what you've learned in a real-life setting, under the supervision of a professional.)
Our students attend classes two days a week and perform clinical rotations three days a week, allowing them to apply their academics to hands-on clinical practice. The pass rate for our graduates is well above the national average for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) board exams.
El Centro College offers an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Students who already hold an associate degree in another allied health discipline may earn an Advanced Technical Certificate in Sonography.
Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography medical board exams and may sit for the physics, abdomen and obstetrics and gynecology registries. Students will also have a working knowledge of vascular sonographic exams.
