Health Careers


Are you interested in entering the health care field? El Centro’s Continuing Education health courses are avenues to immediate employment. Get started with a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Sterile Processing Technician or Community Health Care Worker.

Are you interested in a health career that does not involve direct patient care then perhaps Medical Staff Services, Medical Interpretation or Medical Coding and Billing is the program for you.

The following courses require advisor approval:
  • Certified Nurse Aide
    Nurse aides work in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to give basic, daily care to residents.
  • Medical Interpretation
    Medical Interpreters perform a variety of interpretation services to assist non-English speaking patients receiving care within a medical facility. They facilitate verbal communication between health care providers, clinical support staff, and patients/visitors.
  • Phlebotomy Technician
    Phlebotomists draw blood from individuals in clinical/hospital settings.
  • Sterile Processing Technician
    Sterile Processing Technicians perform all aspects of sterile processing functions with basic surgical instrumentation in the health care workplace.
  • Certified Nurse Aide Review
    C.N.A Review provides skills review and practice for those individuals eligible to take the state exam without completing the entire 100-hour basic class.

The following courses do not require advisor approval:
  • Community Health Care Worker
    Community Health Workers provides cultural mediation between communities and human services systems, informal counseling and social support, culturally and linguistically appropriate health education, and more.
  • Medical Staff Services
    Courses in medical staff services prepare individuals to perform the duties of a medical staff services and/or credentials coordinator in health care settings that include hospitals, managed care organizations and credentialing organizations.
  • Medical Coding and Billing
    These courses are designed to train people in physician’s offices filing claim forms with insurance companies. With experience, you can also work at a hospital or freelance and work out of your home.
  • WorkKeys

We also offer courses to prepare students for various exams and recertification.
