This course examines current and developing trends in the field of conflict resolution and conflict management and how they can be applied in a practical mediation setting.  Available technology is also reviewed for practical application in developing effective marketing and practice growth strategies.  Methods are introduced for understanding and effectively responding to contemporary changes and challenges in the field. This course helps students learn effective dispute resolution strategies and skills design systems that offer constructive approaches to managing organizational conflicts and using them to maximize creativity organizational development.  Students will examine existing dispute resolution systems, identify important decision points, create new dispute resolution systems or improve existing systems.  Lecture, case studies, and experiential activities will expose the student to opportunities for designing dispute resolution systems. Class meets 6/12 (Thursday, 5-9pm) 6/14 (Sat, 8-5p), 6/15 (Sun 8-5p), 6/19 (Thursday, 5-9p), 6/21 (Sa, 8-5p) and 6/22 (Sun 8-5p). Eight hours in addition to those listed above are required for online or other activities outside the classroom.

(2) To create a mental map for using communication tools and techniques to resolve workplace conflict. Defines the process of mediation, its history and development, and theories of conflict resolution and negotiation. This course fulfills the requirements of Senate Bill 1436 for mediation training in Texas. Students also learn how to be successful third party neutrals. *NOTE: Eight hours in addition to those listed above are required for online or other activities outside the classroom. This course exceeds the number of contact hours required training as a mediator for family disputes. Examines the issues involved in a divorce and meets the Texas training requirement in divorce mediation. Topics include child custody, support, and property.
