Word Problems Involving Integers

  1.  In three rounds of golf, a golfer has scores of 6 under par (-6), 2 under par (-2), and 3 over par (+3).  What is his total score?

  2.  An account has a beginning balance of $100.  That day three checks of $29, $34, and $42 are debited against the account.  What is the new balance after these transactions have been made?

  3. The temperature on Monday was -12°C.  If the temperature dropped 7 degrees that morning and then rose 14 degrees by the afternoon, what was the temperature at that point?

  4.  The coldest day ever recorded in a certain city was -14°F and the warmest was 112°F. How many degrees warmer was the warmest day than the coldest day?

  5. The initial temperature during a chemistry experiment was -4°C.  If the temperature then dropped 3°C per hour for the next 15 hours, what was the final temperature?
