The Web (also known as WWW or World Wide Web) allows you to access information on the Internet through a browser.

One of the main features of the Web is the ability to link quickly to numerous sources of information.

The Web is fluid - what is here today may be gone tomorrow.

Use the Web

• to find current information
• to link to information provided by the library from the Library Catalog
• to find information about companies
• to find information from all levels of government - federal to local
• to find both expert and popular opinions
• government documents

Beware! Many web sources contain errors and mis-information!

How to Access

Click the search icon on your web browser or ues search engines recommended by the El Centro Library.

The Internet Service Providers (ISPs), AOL, AT&T, and some others provide an altered version of the browser/s when you buy their service and install their browser. There are known problems with trying to use the library systems rewriting proxy when using one of the provided browsers. The easiest way to remedy this is to down load a full, complete copy of the browser. There are several places from which to download the browser. You should get either Internet Explorer (IE) 5.5 with service pack 1 or 6.0 or Netscape Communicator Version 4.7, 6, 6.2 or 7.
