Industrial Maintenance
Program DescriptionModern industrial plants and factories house a wide range of mechanical equipment and machinery. All of this equipment requires installation, maintenance, and repair. This 300-hour intensive program prepares you for an entry-level position as an Industrial Maintenance mechanic/mechanic assistant and other related positions. Courses utilize training that provide the real-world experience needed to begin a well-paying and rewarding career. The Industrial Maintenance program covers a wide range of skills, including machine repair, maintenance welding, blue print reading, safety training, and troubleshooting. The shop safety training course includes the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Outreach Training, with the 30-Hour course also available. Courses are taught by an OSHA authorized trainer, and students will receive completion cards at the end of the training. The wide variety of skills acquired through the program will be extremely beneficial since the brightest employment outlook is for generalists, not specialists.
Careers Industrial Maintenance Mechanics may work in a variety of industries. Some of the top paying industries include computer systems design; aerospace product and parts manufacturing; air transportation support; scientific research and development services; and electric power generation, transmission, and distribution. Most commonly, however, they work in commercial and industrial machinery and equipment repair and maintenance within manufacturing. When can I start? Flexible entry/exit. Call 214 860-5900 for details. When do I attend classes? 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
Who pays for the training?
Financial assistance may make it possible to attend courses for little or no cost. Job Outlook Industrial maintenance is currently considered an in demand field, by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. This means there are many employers reporting a shortage of qualified workers, above average wages, and relatively low training costs for individuals considering entering the field. O*Net Center Online states that while national statistics report a 9-13% growth rate for industrial maintenance mechanics, the state of Texas projects a 30% increase over the next few years. Texas reports that an additional 1,600 workers will be needed in this field alone. Industrial maintenance workers had a median income in 2008 of $43,670 or $21.77 hourly, but earnings were reported as high as $65,300 a year, or $31.40 an hour. Overtime work is often readily available for extra earnings. With a growing emphasis on environmentally conscious enterprises, and the development of new green technologies, new avenues are going to become available. This may include the maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment used for the development of alternative energy sources, for instance windmills and solar panels. Also, job growth in other industries, such as oil and gas, are anticipated to create many new opportunities for industrial maintenance mechanics, as well.
