Commencement Ceremony


A Commencement Ceremony is held at the end of the Spring semester. This year's ceremony will honor the Fall 2015, Spring 2016, and Summer 2016 graduates. Students who anticipate completing degrees or certificates in the Summer and who have nine (9) hours or less remaining toward completion are eligible and encouraged to participate in the Spring ceremony.

Check – In:

Check – in time is no later than 1:30pm on Sunday, May 15th!
 
Graduates will report to the Embarcadero Building to check-in. You will check-in by last name, with the representatives who will give each graduate a name card with their name printed on it. Do not lose or destroy this card since it will be used to call your name when you walk across the stage to receive your diploma cover.
 

Cap, Gown, and Attire:

Graduation is a formal ceremony.  Therefore, appropriate attire is required.  Women should wear conservative semi-formal or business attire, and dark shoes (Shoes must be worn at all times; low heels strongly encouraged, as you will be standing and walking for long periods of time).  Men should wear dress shirts, dark slacks, dark socks and shoes.
 
Coats and jackets should not be worn, as they are hot and bulky under the graduation robe.  Blue jeans, athletic attire, athletic shoes, or flip-flops will not be allowed. 

You must wear a graduation tassel, cap, and gown to participate in the ceremony. These can be purchased at the El Centro College Follett Bookstore located in the B building (214-698-0461). The purchase price of $29.88 plus tax includes cap, gown, tassel, and collars (for ladies).

Personal Belongings:

No personal belongings will be allowed into the ceremony (this includes purses).  The only thing you will be carrying into the graduation ceremony is your name card. Since you will not be allowed to carry any of your personal items into the graduation ceremony (for example, purses, cameras, cell phones, etc.), you will need to leave these belongings at home, with your family or friends, or in the trunk of your car. Wear clothing that will allow your essential valuables, such as your car keys, to be placed in your pockets under your gown.
If you are interested in purchasing photos from the photographer, please have with you a form of payment (cash, credit card, etc.).

Noisemakers, air horns, etc.
Silly string/confetti 
Lighters
Matches
Laser pointers
Weapons
Back packs
Food and drinks
Large flower arrangements
Large banners.
 

Parking:

Parking at the Fair Park Coliseum is $10. Parking is available in Lot 12-A, found at Gate 11.

Vendors:

A professional photographer will be taking individual photos of the graduates as you walk across the stage, as well as posed photos prior to the ceremony. The photographer, Kevin Bowens Photography, will have a variety of packages available for purchase and will be ready to take posed photographs prior to the ceremony. Accommodations for Graduates:

If you need special assistance for the graduation ceremony, please contact the Disability Services Office, by calling 214-860-2411 or stopping by the Disability Services Office as soon as possible so accommodations can be made.
 

Diplomas:

 
When you walk across the platform, you will receive only a diploma cover.
 
If you graduated in Fall and have not picked up your diploma, please go by the Admissions Office.
 
If you applied for Spring or Summer, you will receive a graduation update six to eight weeks after the end of the semester for which you applied.
