Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference 2009

Several El Centro College students attended the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference at Texas A&M-College Station January 22-25, 2009. SBSLC is a yearly forum where African-American students from across the country assemble yearly for professional development and to discuss the problems and concerns that affect their community. DeElla Lacy, Ardis Anderson, Brandon Mosley, Taylor Kennedy, and Aisha Reeves, as well as ECC faculty and staff Shanee' Holmes and Derrick Payne, joined nearly 1,000 student participants, advisors and presenters from across the country for a weekend of professional and personal development.

Call to Service: Volunteered at MediSend

El Centro College students and staff joined the Call to Service movement, sponsored by the Presidential Inauguration Committee, and volunteered their time for a Day of Service at MediSend International on Monday, January 19, 2009. Volunteers sorted new, surplus medical supplies, equipment and biomedical equipment that were donated by manufacturers, distributors and hospital systems to be shipped to qualified hospitals and organizations that offer medical services to the poor in developing countries. This event was sponsored by ECC Office of Student Life.
