The ECC TRIO Program

The purpose of the El Centro TRIO program is to assist and support eligible college students to stay at El Centro College, complete their Associate's degree, and transfer to a 4-year college. To accomplish this, the program provides the TRIO student with the following services and benefits: "

  • Tutoring assistance on a one-to-one basis, or group, as needed
  • Advising (ongoing and intensive) particularly during the degree/course selection process and assistance in registering for courses.
  • Degree Plan discussion and development.
  • Financial Aid and Scholarship information and assistance in completing forms
  • Transfer planning to continuing their education at a 4-year college or university
  • Referrals for social services, personal counseling, as needed
  • Workshops in time management, study skills, etc.
  • Monitoring of academic progress and early intervention if problems arise
  • Field trips to four year colleges
  • Cultural events in the arts, music, dance, theater, etc.
  • Special events where students meet and reinforce each others' successes
  • Information via weekly email and bi-annual newsletter on activities, trips, scholarships, jobs, etc. available only to TRIO students.
  • Career Counseling if needed
  • Summer orientation to help the student ease back into an educational environment

Individual attention is provided to the TRIO student in a personalized, supportive relationship with their TRIO Advisor who assists the student in setting and achieving his/her educational goals. This intensive advising, along with other TRIO services, enhances successful retention, graduation and transfer outcomes
