Rising Star of the Month
Elvia Sanchez, a 2001 graduate of Skyline
Elvia has been interviewed on KERA Channel 13 highlighting being
a Noriega student. They have interviewed her in classes, in the
library, and her family. The show will probably air in February.
Mail is IMPORTANT!!!!!!
If you receive any mail from the Department of Education, Rising
Star office, or El Centro
College, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. IT IS ALL IMPORTANT. We have many
students who receive their Student Aid Report (SAR) and Pin number
and then lose it, throw it away, can’t find it. You will need
that information later on in the
semester. If you have questions about your financial aid or wonder
why you haven’t received any checks, the answer may lie in
the mail you received. Keep a file of all correspondence that you
get in the mail. It will come in handy later!
Undocumented Students
If you are not a resident or US citizen please call or come by
to set up an appointment with Becky. You may qualify for additional
MONEY to help fund your college education.
Upcoming Field Trips
Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities
21st Century College for Young People/Minds in Motion
Minds in Motion is a program for high school students transitioning
into college. We will have a lot of students on campus that day
as El Centro highlights our various programs. I need Rising Star
students to escort students to different areas, give tours and assist
in registering students for the event. We will provide you with
lunch and there will be a pizza party at the end of the day for
all volunteers. The times will be from 8:00am-2:00pm. Please let
me know if
you are interested.
Volunteers Continued…
League Literary Competition
On February 17th there is a Literary contest and volunteers are
greatly appreciated. If you are interested, call Becky Garza at
214.860.2727 for more details.
Are you in developmental math, reading or writing?
If the answer is yes, remember that you are limited in the number
of absences/tardies that you may accumulate in your classes. This
means DO NOT SKIP your developmental classes. If you miss too many
you will get dropped from that class and all other courses you are
enrolled in as well. This is a TASP rule.
Tutoring
It is time to sign up for tutoring. If you would like to receive
tutoring in math or accounting come by the Rising Star office to
sign up. Starting in Spring, we will be offering tutoring in 1.5
hour increments one time a week instead of 2 sessions of one hour.
Study Abroad Opportunities
During the summer time some campuses in the DCCCD offer study abroad
programs. North Lake College has a program in Campeche, Mexico.

and books but the $1300 is your responsibility. Included in the
