The LeCroy Scholars Program was created in 1988 by DCCCD Foundation Board Member Mike A. Myers to recognize Dr. R. Jan LeCroy, Chancellor of the DCCCD from 1981 to 1988, for his exemplary leadership in education and the community. Outstanding leadership and scholarship are two of the hallmarks of Dr. LeCroy’s tenure and are the main requirements of the LeCroy Scholars Program. Jan LeCroy and Mike Myers will act as mentors to the LeCroy Scholars.

Amount of Award Up to $2,400 each ($600/semester for up to four semesters)

Number of Awards/yr. Varies, as per available funds (5-10 per year)

Criteria Applicants must exemplify outstanding leadership and scholarship as evidenced by a strong academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA or B average) and demonstrated leadership in academic, church, and/or community-based activities. Applicants must also have a high school diploma.

Application Process -Complete LeCroy Scholars Application (part of brochure)

  • Complete DCCCD Foundation Scholarship Application form.
  • One-page (minimum) typed essay-explaining desire to become a LeCroy Scholar and describing leadership experience and academic qualifications.
  • Letter of recommendation
  • High school or college transcript
  • Personal photograph

Recipient Requirements Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout their college career and successfully complete a minimum of 12 Credit hours per semester. Recipients must also commit to attend planned LeCroy Scholars events and indicate this via a signed agreement. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss if scholarship benefits.
