Developmental Math Assessment
DMAT Courses: Math Comprehension Exams
Students may enroll, as required, in to Developmental Math courses because of low test scores.
To fulfill Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, DMAT courses are designed to provide students with the math skills to succeed in college level math courses.
Developmental Math Assessment is required during and after each course.
The Assessment Center is often the place where DMAT exams are administered.
Assessment Center's basic guidelines for DMAT administrations:
- adhere to the testing requirements of the instructors
- regulations on calculator usage
- regulations on measuring devices
- regulations on graphing paper and scratch paper
Passing the courses require the passing of exams as well:
- students who pass DMAT course with a grade C or better move to the next sequence or perhaps to the college level math courses required for the degree sought
- a retest on the initial assessment test may be required when students fail to make the minimum passing score on the initial test for TSI requirements or for placement
- Accuplacer Math is most widely administered in the El Centro Assessment Center for DMAT students. The Asset & Compass test are also administered
- THEA scores are acceptable but not administered at El Centro College
