More than 4.3 million new health assessment, treatment, and service-related jobs will be available between 1996 and 2005 (according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics). And this is due to growth of the healthcare industry rather than replacement of existing workers.. Health services include some of the fastest-growing careers and are expected to grow 67% through 2008. For example, medical assistants is one of top10 fastest growing occupations and registered nurses are expected to have a 22% increase in job growth . During this period the health industry is expected to expand more than two times the rate of the economy as a whole. Our aging population is requiring more health care. And our society is emphasizing getting healthy and staying healthy. Every year, the American Medical Association collects enrollment, graduate, and attrition data from nearly 5,000 educational programs in 48 health professions. These data are published in the annual Health Professions Career and Education Directory. The survey for the 1998-1999 academic year shows that virtually all graduates found employment within 6 months of graduation. |
