Space Holder ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Space Holder

Although the Medical Staff Services Program curriculum indicates that prerequisite courses are required for application, we have temporarily waived the necessity for completing the prerequisite courses prior to entrance to the first Medical Staff Services courses. Due to the nature of this on-line program, the application guidelines have been greatly simplified.

The application procedure is as follows:

  1. Using your Internet browser, download and print a DCCCD college application for admission form. Adobe Acrobat must be installed on your computer to download this form.

Do not submit the online application form electronically
. Print a copy of the form, fill out all pages of the form completely, and fax the form along with a CLEAR photocopy of your driver's license (lighten the copy if necessary) to the individual listed below:

    ATTN: Pamela Farley
    Health Occupations Admissions Advisor
    El Centro College
    FAX 214.860.2268

  2. In addition, these materials must be mailed (not faxed) to the Health Occupations Admissions Office:
  • An original college transcript of each college you have attended
  • The Medical Staff Services Application form (from information packet)
  • The Statement of Student's Responsibility form (from information packet)

    Mail to:
    Pamela Farley
    Health Occupations Admissions Advisor
    El Centro College
    Main and Lamar
    Dallas, TX 75202-3604

Transcripts which have been in the student's possession are acceptable provided they are official with Updated and Maintained byized seal and/or signature affixed. Transcripts from colleges who mail "institution to institution" must be directed to Pamela Farley at the address above. The student is ultimately responsible for submitting official transcripts to the Health Occupations Admissions Office.

Once Items #1 and #2 are received at El Centro College, you will be contacted and registration will proceed.

Space Holder TASP (TEXAS ACADEMIC SKILLS PROGRAM)
Space Holder

Texas Residents:
Potential applicants who are Texas residents must meet TASP guidelines. TASP is required by state law to ensure students enrolled in Texas public colleges possess the academic skills needed to perform effectively in college-level coursework. TASP includes a testing component designed to identify and provide information about the reading, writing, and math skills of students. Potential applicants to the Medical Staff Services Program who are Texas residents should contact the Health Occupations Admissions Office at 214.860.2029 for assistance in determining TASP requirements.

Out of State Residents:
Potential applicants to the Medical Staff Services Program who live in states other than Texas are exempt from TASP. However, if a student has not previously completed reading, writing, or mathematics-based college level coursework and desires to enroll in on-line courses such as ENGL 1301, Psychology 2301, MATH 1314, etc. through El Centro College, assessment testing may be required. This testing may be accomplished through the El Centro College Assessment Center or in a proctored setting at a location convenient for the student. See the Code 17 Policy below for specific guidelines. Please contact the Health Occupations Admissions Office at 214.860.2029 if you have additional questions.

CODE 17 POLICY - TASP EXEMPTION / PLACEMENT TESTING

Provisional acceptance into the online Medical Staff Services (MSS) program may be granted with stipulations to applicants to the online MSS program who meet the following conditions:

  • are TASP exempt by virtue of their out-of-state residency (Code 17)
  • have not earned any previous college credit
  • have not completed reading, writing, or math assessment testing for placement into courses such as English, psychology, speech, mathematics, etc. as required by the MSS curriculum and the College

Students granted this provisional acceptance into the program are allowed to enroll in MSS courses. However, by the end of the first semester, they must present appropriate reading, writing, and mathematics assessment scores in order to continue the MSS curriculum and subsequent DCCCD core courses beyond the first semester.

SAT, ACT, TASP, COMPASS, ASSET, ACCUPLACER, and MAPS are acceptable assessment tools and are available throughout the United States. Students may accomplish assessment testing at a local college or university in their state of residency. Proctored testing may also be possible, wherein the El Centro College Assessment Center will send assessment testing tools to the student's local college or university. There the examination is overseen and the completed test is mailed back to El Centro College for evaluation and posting.

The student is responsible for arranging the release of assessment test results from the local college or university. The assessment scores must be transmitted directly form the institution to the Health Occupations Admissions Office for verification of receipt. After review by the College Counseling Office, the assessment scores are submitted to the College Registrar for posting to the student profile on the Colleague student records system.

Should the test scores indicate the need for developmental course work as prerequisite to enrollment in DCCCD core courses, the student is counseled by the Health Occupations Admissions Advisor in consultation with the El Centro College Director of Counseling as to the level of required developmental courses. The student must complete the prescribed developmental course work before being allowed to register in any related DCCCD core courses.
