Medical Coding

These courses help prepare individuals to become professional medical coders and medical billers. Sequence includes medical terminology, pharmacology, human disease and coding and billing classes. For course descriptions, scroll down to download the Health Careers PDF.

Health Unit Coordinator

For those interested in the excitement of working in a hospital setting as a health unit coordinator or medical clerk, many job openings are available at approximately $20,000 annually.

This course teaches students to work in hospitals or other medical settings as a health unit coordinator, ward clerk, or medical secretary. The course covers the roles and responsibilities, communication processes, medical terminology, clerical skills, procedures, medical ethics and human relations skills necessary to successfully coordinate a nursing unit in a hospital or other medical setting. Prerequisite: 10th grade reading level.

Microsoft Office Skills or demonstrated proficiency.

This course is WIA approved.


CPR

We offer CPR classes for the beginner, the instructor, the health care provider and re-certification in all of these areas. For course descriptions, scroll down to download the Health Careers PDF (or for classes in Spanish, download the Cursos En Español PDF).

Medical Interpretation (New Class)
Look for an exciting new career; Medical Interpretation is one of the fastest growing areas. This course consists of three classes, which must be successfully completed to become eligible for certification. The first class is an introduction to the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the duties of medical interpretation in a health care setting. Limited Medical Radiologic Technology Training
These courses prepare the participant to perform specific radiologic techniques in the physicians’ office. El Centro College is an LMRT approved training site by the Texas Department of Health. Upon completion of all four courses, participants will be eligible to take the LMRT exam offered by ARRT. State license is issued upon successful completion of the ARRT exam. Training is available for the following categories: Extremities, Spine, or Chest. For each specialty you wish to complete, you must complete a separate section of RADR1071. Participants must have completed a formal medical assistant program, a patient care course or presently be a certified medical assistant. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist Program
The CEU certificate in MRI is a four-course, 704-contact-hour, and 2-semester program. The program presents all of the didactic and clinic knowledge and skills necessary to be eligible to take the MRI exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Students must take all four courses. Prerequisites: All students must be Registered Radiologic Technologists prior to entry in the program and must have completed a 32-hour sectional anatomy class within the last 4 years. Phlebotomy
