League for Innovation

Regional Competition 2008

The 22nd Annual League for Innovation Student Art Competition was hosted by Mountain View College from February 11-29, 2008, in the Kiva and Treetop Galleries. This exhibition showcased works selected from the top DCCCD art students in a competition juried by Steve Cruz, Texas artist and Director of the Mighty Fine Arts Gallery in Dallas. El Centro College students participating included Angela Warth, Tamara Sherback and David Tarlo.

Judging
Each of the 7 campuses of the DCCCD choose and submit up to 10 art works from their own students for entries in the League for Innovation Student Art Competition. These 70 pieces form the regional League for Innovation Exhibition hosted annually at Mountain View College. An invited juror chooses 5 pieces from the 70 submitted to advance to the national competition. The 5 pieces selected will be published, representing each of the community colleges or districts, in a nationally distributed catalogue. On the national level of the competition, a recognized artist or art educator selects the top award winners. There are money prizes for the top three places and for a Juror’s Purchase Award.

Tamara Sherback and David Tarlo placed second and third, respectively, in the DCCCD competition. Their work advanced to the national competition and was included in the national catalogue.
