This course addresses preparation for career success including ethics, interpersonal relations, professional attire, observation, teamwork, and advancement. This course utilizes the KeyTrain system to improve career skills for Nurse Aide employment. You will complete work on-line and meet on campus on specific dates. This class is open to all students interested in C.N.A courses. Strongly suggested for approved students for spring and students who missed the deadline and will apply in the summer. Last day to register is 2/18/13.

Preparation for entry level nursing assistants to achieve a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include residentís rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis on effective interaction with members of the health care team.  This will be achieved through lecture, skills laboratory practice and clinical experiences.  Upon successful completion of the course, the student will qualify to take the state Skill and Written Examination for Nurse Aide Certification.  Successful completion of the examination is required for placement on the Texas Certified Nurse Aide Registry. Additional expense includes the following:

Textbook: Nursing Assistant Care, The Basics

You will also need navy blue scrubs, white nurse or white leather athletic shoes, a watch with a second hand. Other supplies needed: stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and a gait belt. An information sheet with details will be available at the Continuing Education office.  You must have Continuing Education Advisor approval for this course. Class meets: 2/11, 13, 20, 27, 3/6, 11, 25, 4/3, 8, 10 and 12 hours of open lab will be scheduled. Ten (10) maximum number of seats available, submit your complete application starting 11/25/13.

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. The clinical experience will be one week (specific dates are given in class) at a long term care facility from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. You must have C.E Advisor approval for this course. Class meets: 03/08, 03/15, 03/22, 03/29, 04/05 (Saturday's only)..
