Preparation for entry level nursing assistants to achieve a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis on effective interaction with members of the health care team. This will be achieved through lecture, skills laboratory practice and clinical experiences. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will qualify to take the state Skill and Written Examination for Nurse Aide Certification. Successful completion of the examination is required for placement on the Texas Certified Nurse Aide Registry. Additional expense includes the following:
State testing fee $93.00
Criminal background check $45.00
Liability insurance $11.00
You will also need navy blue scrubs, white nurse or white leather athletic shoes, a watch with a second hand. Other supplies needed: stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and a gait belt. A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. The clinical experience will be one week at a long term care facility from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. You must have C.E Advisor approval for this course |

This course is designed to provide skills review and practice for those individuals eligible to take the state exam without completing the entire nurse aide course. A small fee for liability insurance will be assessed. A criminal background check is required. An information sheet will be available at the continuing education office. The results of a tuberculosis screening within the last six months (negative PPD or Chest X-Ray). State Test is scheduled for TBA. You must have Continuing Education Academic Advisor approval for this course. |
