A study of medical terminology, word origin, structure, and application.

Successful students will be able to: define, pronounce, and spell medical terms with the use of medical references as resource tools; utilize terms in context; analyze medical terms; examine word origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and symbols.

Medical Terminology is a prerequisite for all other courses in the Medical Coding sequence.  It is foundational for studies in other allied health areas as well.

An applied systematic study of the structure and function of the human body designed for students considering a career in the health field. Includes anatomical terminology, cells, tissues, and the following systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, and endocrine. Emphasis on homeostasis

Successful students will be able to: identify the structure and explain the function of cells and tissue; identify the components and explain the physiological mechanisms of the following body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, and endocrine; and apply anatomical terminology to describe the processes these systems use to maintain homeostasis of the human body.

Prerequisite: Medical Terminology
