The Paramedic Program is open to members of selected area fire departments and the Dallas Fire Department. Civilian students are also being enrolled for the first time in a cooperative effort by El Centro College and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. |

| DUAL ROLE | |||||||
|
Candidates seeking employment as a firefighter for the Dallas Fire Department are required to serve a dual role as Paramedic and Firefighter. |
|||||||
| TRAINING | |||||||
|
After attending Fire Training the candidate will attend and complete the EMT-Basic and the Paramedic Programs at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Candidates receive forty (40) hours of college credit during this training process from El Centro College. Once the Dallas Fire Departement (DFD) candidate has successfully completed the requirements for certification from the Texas Department of Health and the Medical Director, he/she will have completed the DFD training process and will be given a station assignment. |

| ELIGIBILITY | |||||||
All candidates must complete an Anatomy and Physiology
class, EMT-Basic and must achieve minimum scores on reading and math testing
from one of the categories indicated below in order to be eligible for Paramedic
Training:

| EXPENSES | |||||||
| For Dallas firefighters, the City of Dallas pays all tuition and books in addition to the student salaries. | |||||||
| COURSES | |||||||
| EMS Training consists of classroom lectures, hospital clinical rotations and MICU field internship. EMSP Course descriptions are in the college catalog. | |||||||
