Library Instruction or Information Literacy refers to the competencies for acquiring, understanding, manipulating, and presenting information. These skills are identified in collaboration with various academic programs. This collaboration continues in the development of activities and the measurement of successful attainment of these skills.

Construct and implement effective search strategies (program outcome)
Identify broader, narrower, and related ideas based on topic.
Formulate an appropriate thesis statement based on research requirements.
Create three main points relevant to a thesis statement.
Create successful search strategies utilizing search techniques (phrasing, Boolean, truncation, field searching).
Locate and retrieve a variety of information types, sources and formats (program outcome)
Develop a research plan appropriate to the assignment.
Retrieve relevant information from a variety of information types (primary vs secondary, popular vs. scholarly, current vs. historical), based on research requirements.
Retrieve relevant subject-specific information from a variety of information formats (print or online), based on research requirements.
Retrieve relevant subject-specific information from a variety of information sources (books, articles, web, proprietary), based on research requirements.
Evaluate a variety of information sources and formats (program outcome)
Revise search strategies based on the quantity and quality of search results.
Analyze the appropriateness and usefulness of the information, based on assignment criteria.

Utilize a variety of information sources and formats (program outcome)
Create artifacts (such as an outline, note cards, drafts, bibliography) to selectively record relevant information from sources of information used for research, based on assignment requirements.
Integrate relevant information from a variety of sources to create one or more modes of presentation (such as oral presentations, personal essays, research papers, critiques, or PowerPoint presentations), as assigned by instructor.
Use information appropriate to laws, regulations, institutional policies regarding access and use of information (program outcome)
Identify citation elements for information sources from a variety of formats (books, articles, web).
Construct appropriate documentation (such as APA, MLA, Chicago) consistently and correctly to cite a variety of sources (such as visuals, sounds, online, print).
Within an artifact, demonstrate an understanding of plagiarism by appropriately and accurately acknowledging the use of information sources.
