Creating Links from EBSCO & Gale Databases to eCampus
The databases provide full text articles for thousands of journal titles.
EBSCO Databases
The instructions below are for searching and copying a URL in Academic Search Complete, but these instructions may be used for any EBSCO database.
The steps for creating links to full text articles in EBSCO are:
- From the Library Home Page, click on the link to "Newspapers and Magazine Articles".
- Select a database. For example, scroll down the page and click on the link to Academic Search Complete:
- From the BASIC SEARCH page, type in your keywords and click SEARCH to begin your search:

- OR click on the "ADVANCED SEARCH" tab if you wish to search by a:
- title
- author
- journal or magazine
- issue
- fill in the appropriate boxes. Click the "Search Button".
- The next screen will list articles that match your search strategy:

- Click on either HTML FULL TEXT or PDF FULL TEXT to read the article.
- In the full text display of the journal article, verify that this is the journal article that you want to link to, and then click the "Save" button. Do not copy the URL in the browser ADDRESS/URL field.

- On the Save Manager screen, click SAVE:

- The next screen displays the URL to be copied - under Cut & Paste. Notice that the "Cut and Paste" field includes not just the URL but the complete link including the HTML link tags.
- Copy the URL to eCampus, under External Links.
- You can also EMAIL articles to yourself or to others. The Persistent link will be sent with the article itself.
Adding the Link to Blackboard
- Log into Blackboard (eCampus) and click on the control panel.
- Select External Links, then Add Item
- Paste the URL from above.
- NOTE: When accessing this off-campus, you will be asked to log into the database: insert your name, social security number, and your PIN number (hint provided on the login page).
Should you experience any problems creating a link or need assistance, please contact Joe David (ext. 2180) or Linda Baker(ext. 2177).
The best guide to resources is a librarian who can help you in using the catalog, databases and the Web. A librarian can also assist you in selecting materials appropriate for your needs. Please ask at any service desk for information or assistance!
