HOW TO ORDER NON-PRINT MATERIALS
AND EQUIPMENT:
- Please use our voice mail or e-mail system to make your
request. Send your request to 5MEDIA@dcccd.edu
or call extension 2170. If your e-mail is sent to any other
e-mail address or voice mail ext. your request may be overlooked.
- Please place your request at least two days in advance.
Your request will be delivered and picked up by media personnel.
Less than two days is considered a "Late Request"
and you will be subject to picking up and returning all
materials checked out from the media department yourself
provided they are available.
- All equipment/non-print material checked out will be due
in the media department no later than time and date agreed.
You should make arrangements with media personnel to keep
any equipment past your return time. If you desire to take
equipment or materials off campus you should indicate that
when you’re making your request. It is necessary for
you to check out items in person for off campus use. There
are special forms that require signatures. (Please check
with media personnel on equipment allowed off campuses.)
DAILY & SEMESTER RETURNS:
- For those who check out limited equipment for an entire
semester, you are required to visit the media department
in person to pick up the equipment. Once you take possession
of the equipment, it is your responsibility to notify media
of minor repairs i.e., light bulb replacement, batteries,
etc. You are to keep equipment in locked storage when not
in use. At the end of the semester it is important that
you return all items to the media department, should you
need to use them the following semester, or during the break
period between semesters you must notify us. We must physically
see the items for inventory purposes and to determine what
service needs the equipment may have.
- Should an accident occur and you find the equipment/material
damaged, please report the incident to the media center
A.S.A.P.! Should the media center discover damage due to
neglect or abuse the Manager of Media Services will notify
you and the Assistant Dean of the Library Resource Center of our findings.
- You are expected to return all items on or before the
due date. If you find that you are unable to return your
item on time please contact the media department A.S.A.P.
We can always make different arrangements for return providing
the item you have has not been reserved for someone else.
CASSETTE & VIDEO DUPLICATION:
- The media department is equipped with duplication service
for audio/video tapes. We will duplicate
material that is directly related to the academic studies
here at El Centro only. Under no circumstances will we duplicate
personal tapes of any kind, tapes rented from video stores
or tapes that clearly indicate; "DO NOT DUPLICATE".
Although we can record special programming from network
and cable broadcasts, there are certain things we are not
allowed to do. It is against the law to alter any broadcast
item. However, should we discover that
the broadcast is available for purchase we will inform you. For more information please see our brochure regarding copyright laws (available in Media room B-240).
- We receive orders for duplication on a first comes first
serve basis. Rarely, turn around time can be the same day.
You should allow at least a week for your request to be
completed. Only special circumstance, determined by media
personnel, will be considered for immediate turn around.
Videotapes cannot be duplicated at high speed as audiocassettes
can. It takes "real time” to duplicate a videotape.
You will be notified when your tapes are ready for pick
up in the foyer of the media department.
PREVIEW ROOM USE:
- Should you need to view a tape you must call at least
a day in advance to schedule a time to use the viewing room.
Most often the room is available, however, reserving the
space in advance assures room availability. Media personnel
must clear room for use.
- Although students are not allowed to check out items from
the media department, they are welcomed to use items in-house.
Under unusual circumstances, should a student find a need
to use non-print material and/or equipment outside the media
department, they should have an instructor come to room
B240 to check out items for them. This cannot be done over
the phone, as the instructor's signature is required.
SATURDAY REQUESTS:
- The Media Center is closed on Saturdays. If you have need
for media items for use on Saturday, you must make your
request before 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
- Your item of request will be delivered to the foyer of
the Continuing Education office located on the second floor
of building A. We ask that you return the item(s) to that
location when finished. Media staff will retrieve the item(s)
on the following Monday.
SMART CART:
- Persons requesting smart cart (presentation equipment)
bookings should call the media office for details on guidelines
and procedures.
- Smart carts are not available for off campus use!
VCR COVER KEYS:
- Some of the rooms with permanently installed TV/VCR’s
are equipped with locked covers for the VCR’s. You
may either checkout a key for this unit for the semester,
or, you may call and request that the unit be unlocked/locked
by media staff.
- If you check out a key for the semester, you are responsible
for returning the key at the end of the semester. You must
stop by the media center and sign for the key.
- You are responsible for securing the VCR when finished.
Please make sure all covers are securely locked after each
use. (The covers have cut down on the theft problem considerably.)
MIDDLE COLLEGE - SPECIAL PROVISIONS:
All Middle College staff and faculty are required to make
all media requests through Vivian Flores, at extension 2211.
In turn, Ms. Flores will contact the media center to book
those requests with us.
