H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery, El Centro College – Dallas, TX. is proud to present Dreaming of Paradise, Photographs of Cuba by Bert L. Long Jr., December 4, 2008 – January 9, 2009, Reception, Thursday, December 4, 2008, Noon – 2:00 pm., Gallery Talk 12:30 pm.

The H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery at El Centro College, Dallas, is pleased to present Dreaming of Paradise, Photographs of Cuba by internationally known artist Bert L. Long Jr. of Houston, Texas. The photographs in the exhibition were taken by Mr. Long on a trip to Cuba in 2001. The works evoke the bright palette of color for which his paintings are known as well as the sensitivity of an artist in a land that has inspired artists since its discovery by Europeans. The most prominent of these artists, the American writer Ernest Hemingway, for which many areas of the country are named after and even with the political tensions that have existed between Cuba and America for decades, Hemingway is considered a hero and native son of Cuba.

Mr. Longs photographs are both those a tourist and a visionary painter that sees the beauty and soul of a place and people that co-exists with incredible hardship. In the bright light of the Caribbean sun the colors of the place in the photographs saturate your eyes to the point of a hallucination from another world. Brightest blue waters, faded patinas of color on American and Russian cars of the 50s and 60s, and the smiles of a people living a dream gone astray of an equal share of economics, education, and a revolutionary promise of a new freedom from one kind of political oppression that unfortunately morphed into another. However, Mr. Long has captured in photographs the beauty in the hopes and dreams of those that carry on.

Special Thanks to HCG Gallery and Brandy Taylor, Gallery Director, for which this exhibition, Dreaming of Paradise, is showing in conjunction with Mr. Longs latest works, My Daily Bread, at HCG Gallery, 1130 Dragon Street, Suite 190, Dallas, Texas, 75207, December 5, 2008 – January 10, 2009, with a reception on Friday, December 5, 6 – 9 pm.
