(REGULATION)

INCLEMENT WEATHER
The following procedure shall govern work attendance and the closing of District colleges and offices due to inclement weather.

CLOSING AUTHORITY

The Chancellor or designee shall be the authority for the closing of
District offices due to inclement weather. The college presidents shall
have the authority to close college facilities under their supervision, or
to suspend student related activities when, in their judgment, inclement
weather conditions make such action advisable in the interest of public
safety. The college presidents shall coordinate such action by
conference call, and the designated coordinating president shall notify
the Vice Chancellor of Educational Affairs of any such action.
Suspension of student related activities means cessation of classes,
registration, graduation or other similar activities. Closed means total
cessation of all work activities.

NOTICE TO NEWS MEDIA

The college presidents shall establish a mutually acceptable plan for
notifying appropriate news media concerning any changes to the normal
college schedule.

EMPLOYEE ACTION

If a suspension of student related activities occurs at a college,
employees designated at the beginning of the academic year by the
College President shall report for work. If weather conditions render
unsafe any reasonable attempt to report by any of the designated
employees, the employee unable to report shall, as soon as practicable,
advise the immediate supervisor.
If a suspension of student related activities occurs at a campus adjacent
to the District Office or District Service Center, employees at the
respective locations designated at the beginning of the academic year
by the Chancellor or Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs shall report
for work. If weather conditions render unsafe any reasonable attempt to
report by any of the designated employees, the employee unable to
report shall, as soon as practicable, advise the immediate supervisor.
If a location is closed, only physical plant and security personnel
designated by the chief executive officer at the location shall report for
work.

ABSENCE REPORTING

In the event of closing or suspension of student related activities:

1.Reporting of absences is not required for employees who are not
designated to report to work; and
2.Approved leave will not be charged to employees who have
taken such leave and who are not designated to report to work.
In the event of closing or suspension of student related activities,
absences of employees who are designated to report for work shall be
duly reported and justified through channels to the chief administrative
officer of the location. If approved, the absence shall be deemed
excused for which no leave of any type shall be charged against the
employee.
An employee is expected to report to work when the college or District
offices are open; otherwise the employee will be charged leave without
pay unless leave has been approved as provided in this manual.

COMPENSATORY TIME

In the event of closing or suspension of student related activities,
personnel required to report for work shall receive compensatory time
at a later date, approved by such employees' immediate supervisor.

MAKE UP SESSIONS

The Vice Chancellor of Educational Affairs shall establish procedures
for the make up of class sessions and student related activities
cancelled due to inclement weather.

STUDENT AND EMPLOYEE
RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTY

Notwithstanding the provisions in this regulation, students and
employees (whether designated to report to work or not) are ultimately responsible for their own safety and have the duty to determine whether weather conditions will prevent them from being present at a campus or work location. Such responsibility and duty is not assumed by the District, its officers or employees, by virtue of any action or inaction under the provisions herein.
