Administered through the Department of Education, the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Program is a grant that provides expanded academic enrichment opportunities for youth in low-performing schools. We currently serve 7 Charter Schools in the south and southeast areas of Dallas, with a total enrollment of 790.

Awarded 21st CCLC funds under subcontract in 1999, El Centro College provides academic enrichment activities and tutorial services to students in grades K - 12. On January 8, 2002, the program was re-authorized under Title IV, part 8, of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Some of the programs and classes available to students include:

  • Voyager Expanded Learning reading intervention program for grades K - 8
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • GED
  • Creative Writing
  • College Prep
  • Career Choices
  • Nutrition/Health

Also available to enhance the academic component of the program:

  • Youth development activities such as field trips
  • Drug and violence prevention programs
  • Technology education programs
  • Art education
  • Music education
  • Character education
  • Recreation
