Philosophy and Methodology:
I have taught sociology at El Centro College since 1973. I also coordinate and teach in the El Centro College Mediation and Dispute Resolution Program. Mediation is a process of communication in which persons with a dispute, assisted by a mediator, reach an agreement, understanding, or reconciliation. I love teaching and I especially love teaching sociology here. Sociology is the study of human social behavior. It is about how people interact in relationships, groups, communities, and societies. I am interested in how social arrangements foster greater freedom, equality, human dignity, and self-determination. I use a class discussion approach and do some lectures too. I believe in students being active and involved in the course. All El Centro sociology courses emphasize the application of sociological ideas and theories to the real life experiences of students. I also use videos and group activities to foster learning in my classes. For much more information, please see my website mediationadr.net. Most of this website is devoted to El Centro College students. Contact me at (214) 860-2393 or the Arts and Sciences Division - (214) 860-2392. My office, Rm. 550, is in the northeast corner of the fifth floor, right next to the division office.
