emphasis is placed on cross-cultural negotiations and mediations.

| | Defines the process of mediation, its history and development,
and theories of conflict resolution and negotiation. This course
fulfills the requirements of Senate Bill 1436 for mediation
training in Texas. Students also learn how to be successful third
party neutrals. Class meets: May 30-31, June 6,7, 13.
Two hours in addition tothose listed abouve are required for

| | Prerequisite: SOCI 2373 or DRCM 1372/DRCM 1072. Students obtain
field experience conducting mediations, and dealing effectively
with conflict management situations. They practice in-takes,
role-play, devolop marketing strategies, as well as other
practical mediator and conflict resolver. In addition to the
seminars, students must do 32 hrs. of experiential activites as
assigned by the instructor. Class meets at Dispute Mediation
Service.
